NOA2218 Support Scientist (GeoCarb and Other GHG Observing Satellites)

I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) www.imsg.com, a Federal Government Contractor, is seeking to hire a Support Scientist to join our team at NOAA/NESDIS/Center for Satellite Applications Research (STAR).  IMSG currently supports NOAA/STAR’s Atmospheric Science and Technology Applications contract in applied research and development working environment along with U.S. government scientists, visiting scientists, and other contractors. The Support Scientist will provide analytical data support to meet STAR missions.

• Perform satellite inter-comparison of CrIS, GOSAT, GOSAT-2, and other datasets containing GHG observations of CO2, CH4, and H2O.
• Provide programming, and algorithm development support, and other activities to assess retrieval performance, provide analytical support to evaluate comparisons of the data (i.e., statistical assessment, case studies, etc.)
• Work with NOAA government staff, interact with science teams and participate in algorithm and product readiness reviews, documentation, presentations and publications.

• MS/PhD equivalent with experience in computer programming for remote sensing and data assimilation application.

• Experience in converting research code to operational code
• Strong computer programming and scripting background
• Experience of IDL and other graphic tools (Matlab, Python, etc.)
• Familiarity with scientific data formats such as HDF, netCDF, and GRIB
• Experience with shell scripting

• Very strong communication and presentation skills and demonstrated experience in writing scientific and technical documents.
• Good interpersonal and team-work skills
